About the Event
We have invited Dr. Sylvia Martin, Dr. Jason Coe, Dr. Denise Tang and Prof. Gina Marchetti on a panel discussion. Date: 17th November 2017 (Friday) Time: 6:00-7:30pm Venue: Academic Conference Room, 11/F, Cheung Yu Tung Tower, Centennial Campus, HKU
Hundreds of women and men have reported instances of sexual harassment and assault in Hollywood over the past month. Join us as we unpack and analyze how issues of gender, power, sex, race, and money merge to perpetuate institutionalized forms of oppression. We will address questions such as: what is the relationship between what we see on the screen and the “behind-the-scenes”? What challenges do women media professionals in Hollywood and Asia face? Our discussion will connect up to broader conversations about workplace culture and gender parity in other industries and institutions. Identifying possibilities for change will also be explored. The talk will start with a short presentation by Dr. Sylvia J. Martin, followed by a conversation with Dr. Denise T.S. Tang and Dr. Jason Coe, moderated by Professor Gina Marchetti, and lead into an open Q and A.
